Guineas Festival Betting Odds, Promotions, Tips & Predictions

Newmarket betting is among the most exciting in the sport of kings. Many big events are held here at the home of the National Stud and the Jockey Club. However, arguably none more so than the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, the featured events of the Newmarket Guineas Festival which in 2021 will be held on Saturday the 1st of and Sunday the 2nd of May.

Guineas are old-fashioned coins that were used as currency in England between 1663 and 1813. Because these races were first raced in the 1809, Guineas and their worth, became the featured title of the races, a name that was not updated when the coins, which take their name from the fact the gold they were minted in was sourced from the Guinean region of Africa, were disbanded in 1813. At the time, Guineas were worth one pound and one shilling which today would make them worth around R$1 and five pence.

Because of the prestige of the two big races, 2000 Guineas betting and 1000 Guineas betting and Newmarket betting in general has become a huge deal for Brasil racing. As such, we pride ourselves on providing the finest Newmarket horse racing betting tips. Read on for more.

Guineas Festival Betting Tips & Predictions 2021

The first of these big two races takes place on 1st May when the 2,000 Guineas goes off at 15:35 (GMT). With this year’s flat racing season creaking into life, bettors will do well to remember that eight of the last ten colts to win the 2,000 Guineas won in what was actually their first race of the season.

One such horse is Charlie Appleby’s One Ruler who, with less than a week to go, is the race favourite. This is ahead of the follow-up favourites, the Joseph O’Brien-trained Thunder Moon at 5/1 and Aidan O'Brien’s St Marks Basilica. We would give the slight nudge to the latter of these three if for no other reason than Aidan O’Brien is the most successful trainer in the race’s history with 11 winners. Stablemate Wembley is also near the top of the betting as the pair prepares for their first outing of the new campaign.

Another pointer for punters is that the last two winners of this race both successfully took down Doncaster’s Vertem Futurity Stakes at the tail end of the previous campaign. The same was duly achieved by Mac Swiney back in October, making his 25/1 price look a little tempting, while it continues to shorten.

As for Saturday’s feature race and the first fillies’ classic of the year, the 1,000 Guineas, Santa Barbara from Aidan O’Brien – who has trained four of the last five winners here – is the short-priced favourite, even if, at 6/4, it’s a little too short for a filly who has only raced once.

Keeping it in the family, O’Brien’s son Joseph enters his charge Pretty Gorgeous who has been made the second favourite following victory in the Fillies’ Mile last October over both course and distance on the fifth run of a two-year-old juvenile season that yielded three wins and two runner-ups.

Disappointing runs in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket last week has seen the odds drift outward on both Sacred and Saffron Beach, so now could be the time to strike for those that were leaning towards either of those two, separated only in the betting by Alcohol Free.

Differing from Saturday’s showpiece, ten of the previous twelve 1,000 Guineas’ winners have at least four runs on their CV and as many have won over a mile or more before heading to Newmarket for the 15:40 (GMT) run out.

Popular Guineas Festival Betting Markets

As one of the major weekends of British racing, 2000 Guineas betting and 1000 Guineas betting means big business for Brasil bookmakers as punters and bettors get fired up for all of the finest Newmarket betting opportunities that arise when not one but two of British racing’s two classics are held. The 1000 Guineas is held a day after the 2000 Guineas. Having said that, you can bet on one or both of these in duel singles or a classic double. You can also enjoy a whole range of bets over one of the top weekends in racing when Newmarket horse racing betting helps get the flat season well and truly underway.

Outright Winner

One bet that is straightforward and very easy to understand is to put on a straight single bet like a win or a place. These are not complicated at all and, in the case of the 2000 or 1000 Guineas, can be laid ante post. With a single, you bet on the amount you want and get paid out according to the odds on the horse you have picked. All that needs to happen for you to win your bet is for your horse to be the winning horse in the race or, if you backed the place, to finish in first, second, or third in either the 1000 or 2000 Guineas.

Double Up on Both

Another idea is to attempt to pick the winner of both the 2000 Guineas on Saturday AND the winner of the 1000 Guineas the next day. Not in two bets though, but in one double.  A double requires you to win two bets involving as many horses, but for the one stake. Your stake from the 2000 Guineas gets paid to odds and these winnings make up the stake for Sunday’s 1000 Guineas. If these happen to be long priced winners, you could be looking at a very handsome reward.

Forecast Betting

With a forecast, bettors are looking to bet on the first two horses over the line in a nominated order in any given race. Forecast bets are normally paid out according to a one-unit stake. Also, many people choose to double their stake and lay a reverse forecast meaning that the same two selections can finish in the top two but in any order, meaning that bettors are covered both ways.

Placepot Betting

A bet on the placepot is one for the day, not the race. The idea being that you are betting on six of that day’s races, usually the first, sometimes the last six, nominating a horse to finish among the places in each of them. This is not an accumulator though, your stake doesn’t swell and roll on to the next race. Instead, a final figure is calculated and paid out in relation to a R$1 stake. A Placepot is very similar to a Scoop6, but that is a bet where you must pick the winning horses in each of the six races at a meeting.

Race Structure For The Guineas Festival

Rowley Mile at Newmarket is the setting for the festival. Over the two days of the Guineas festival, there are 14 races that take place. The festival is run in late April or sometimes in early May and heralds the decline of the National Hunt season and beginning of the flat racing season in the Brasil which takes place over the summer months.

The older of the two races, the 2000 Guineas, runs on Saturday which means that, of the five classics of British horse racing, this is the first of the year to be held. Unofficially grouped together with the Derby and the St Leger, this race becomes the first leg of the three that make up flat racing’s Triple Crown.

On the immediate Sunday, the second classic of the year, the 1000 Guineas takes place. This race also serves as the first race of the Fillies’ Triple Crown which also includes the Epsom Oaks and Doncaster’s St Leger. As already mentioned above, the 1000 Guineas and the 2000 Guineas take their name from their original prize funds. Today, both races have the same prize fund of more than 40 R$00,000.

There are five classics in Brasil horse racing and these are the 2000 Guineas, the 1000 Guineas, The Derby, The Oaks and the St Leger.

Race Structure For The 2000 Guineas Stakes

Raced over the famous Rowley Mile, the 2000 Guineas is run over a distance of slightly more than a mile and is considered to be a Group 1 race. This race is open to three-year-old colts and fillies. However, while the race may be open to fillies, participation is rare and the last filly to compete ran in 1960.

Race Structure For The 1000 Guineas Stakes

The 1000 Guineas is, like its sister race, raced over the mile long turf known as the Rowley Mile which is famously part of the Newmarket race course. It is open to three-year-old fillies exclusively.

History of 2000 Guineas Stakes

The 2000 Guineas Stakes was first run on 18 April 1809 after being established by Sir Charles Bunbury, a steward of the Jockey Club. Bunbury was also the co-founder of the Epsom Derby. Guineas being old-fashioned money, and today worth around R$1.05, the race was named after its original prize fund. After half a century of history, the race had established itself as one of the most important races in British horse racing.

Running on a day before its sister race, the 1000 Guineas, the 2000 Guineas takes place at the beginning of the flat season. Legendary winners here include Dancing Brave, Brigadier Gerard, Sea The Stars, Nijinsky and the one and only Frankel.

History of 1000 Guineas Stakes

Five years after the inaugural running of the 2000 Guineas, the 1000 Guineas race was introduced as a companion event and went off for the first time on 28 April 1814. Whereas the 2000 Guineas was an event for both colts as well as fillies, the 1000 Guineas was established as an event exclusively for fillies. Around the mid-1860s, both the 200 and 1000 Guineas were considered to be two of Britain's most prestigious races for the age group and were included among the classics. The 1000 Guineas, while being a prestigious race in its own right, can also work as a trial for another of the classics, the Oaks Stakes at Epsom on Derby weekend. The last horse to win both races was Minding back in 2016.

ThePuntersPage Final Say

The 2000 and 1000 Guineas Stakes are two of the most anticipated races in Britain, not just of the flat season, but of the entire horse racing year, making 1000 and 2000 Guineas betting extremely popular.

They also happen to be the first two of the five British Classics to run each season. These two Group 1 races both go off on the same course, Newmarket’s Rowley Mile, and are chased over the same distance of more than one mile. The Rowley Mile, one of three courses at Newmarket along with the July Course and the Round Course, is a straight mile that includes a famous dip.

Two furlongs out, this straight runs downhill before lifting upwards again for the last furlong which can be testing for the horses especially the sharp incline before the end that jockeys must prepare for and can always be relied upon to provide a thrilling finish.
